    How new is new?

Just bought yourself a new hybrid, huh, a three cylinder Elektra Volta 1600. You're driving home, and you're thinking, "Man, this brand new technology is the cat's meow." If you guessed an introduction of around 2000 you missed it by over a hundred years. Ferdinand Porsche introduced a roadworthy hybrid in about 1898. It had a range of about 200km.

You are absolutely correct, as I understand it there have been zero improvements in battery technology, metallurgy or safety measures in the last 115 years.

Your knowing about all those improvements in all that technical stuff pretty well cancels my clever observation. However, 98 per cent of the people reading it would simply have said, "Damn, they had hybrids way back then."

It's still both clever and true.
